New Car - pt 2

Picked it up this morning, oh yes!
I got used to driving it within minutes, it really is a nice drive. And it just goes to show how I was constantly fighting against that old car, this new one is so comfortable.

Need to go on a few visits to various people around the country now I think, to give it a proper test.

Certainly seems to go quick as well, on the way back from Lincoln without even realising it, I was doing 70mph on a dual-carriageway in fourth gear at about 3500 revs!!! My old car wouldn't have even done 70 in fourth i doubt, never mind at those low revs! So quiet as well, can barely hear the engine at all when it's running, keep thinking it's stalled it's that quiet at junctions lol

New Car!

:-D

After another day of searching around without much luck, ended up at a little car dealer in Lincoln and spotted this one solitary Corolla sitting on the forecourt. 1.6litre vvti, T3 model, metalic silvery blue. 52 plate, but absolutley perfect condition and very nice to drive - apparently quite nippy too! Looking at the Toyota site it should do 0-62mph in 10 seconds, which is as fast as the Ford Focus 1.8 zetec!!!

Got all the extras that I have wanted for so long and not had in my car, i.e. air con, remote central locking, electric windows, front fogs, alloys, trip computer with all the outside temp gauge etc.

I really can't wait to pick it up next sunday.

Cars

I really like the new Astra, i've decided.

Went looking at cars today at Motorpoint in Derby and various other places. The Astra just looks so cool - on the outside and inside, its really smart. Problem is, there's barely any second hand around and you're looking at 10grand to get a decent one :-(

Don't reckon there's anyway I can afford that really, especially when the Vauxhall dealer goes on to tell me I might only get £800 part-exchange for mine!!! As much as I like the Astra, I think I'm going to have to go back to the original idea of a couple of year old Focus. Well, unless I find a good MG ZR tomorrow... I think all the good deals on them have about gone though.

Back to the boredom

Had a great BBQ on Saturday, after we eventually got one to light.... was actually not raining for a change too! So we lounged around a bit drinking beer in the sun and throwing stones in a hole (!?)

Was fun honestly!

But the drinking went on.... and on.... and on.... you get the picture :-)
Stopped played poker at about five, after Gaz had about cleared up. Went to bed finally, 1 bottle of vodka and nearly 2 crates of beer later! (Oh yeah, a pint at the pub too...)

Mike and Gaz had some very odd problem sleeping in one of the rooms here, still not quite sure what happened, so they ended up sleeping in Gaz's car! - Although Alex was happy cos he got the bed after that!

All this equated to one hell of a hangover on sunday, one of the worst I can remember. Finally started to die down about 3 o'clock when me and Alex went for a wander round Southwell. Was all worth it though (I think!?)

No pictures sadly, forgot to get my camera out. Need to take some again, bit to much text in this blog at the moment!

But like I said at the beginning, was a good day, but now it's back to the boredom :-(

Siemens BBQ

Today was the Siemens BBQ, which I have been to for two years previously, during my placement, and along with tradition, it rained.

Although we did have to say, at least we got away with a couple of hours of sun before it chucked it down this year!

Was good fun though, although can't say i'm a fan of Bavarian music...

Off to play badminton with Stu tonight :-D Woohoo! Thank god, finally some exercise again! Got it booked for next week too, so hopefully we can keep booking for every week.

Just hope this rain stops before saturday, when I have that BBQ here...

Results!

I got a 2:1 :-D :-D

I am very very pleased with that, from the moment I took those exams I expected to come out with a 2:2 or possibly fail some of them and have to re-take. I can't have asked for any better than this, particularly as it was a high 2:1 - 67% average!

Well done to everyone else as well, pretty much everyone got what they wanted, 2:1's (or first's in the case of Tom and James).

Time for some celebration I think! Well, apart from a meal out that might have to be postponed til next weekend.

Although, feel kind of guilty celebrating anything at the moment after the terrorist attacks in London yesterday, apparently at least 50 are now confirmed dead according to BBC News. Don't really know what to say about it other than I just hope they catch someone this time and put them away for a very long time. Not that that will provide much comfort for the families involved, but it's something.

War of the Worlds

Well, I take back what I said yesterday, this was one of the worst films i've seen this year! I really did expect it to be a good film, particularly with Spielberg directing etc.

But it was shocking! I can't really remember the original film so I've got nothing to compare it against, but me and Stu both said the same, it had absolutely no story! I've never seen a film with such a lack of depth or detail. Nothing was explained, e.g. what the red weeds were - They just appeared and nothing was said either way about them. I won't say much more incase anyone's not seen (although i'd say don't bother!) Everything in the film was just left hanging or ended all of a sudden like it had been cut short. They didn't even bloody explain how the son miraculously survived! It was only just over an hour and a half long and it seemed to us like half the film was missing. If that was quite stictly based on the book, as I thought I heard it was, then i've lost all respect for H G Wells!

I'm just annoyed. I wanted that to be a class film and I wish I hadn't wasted 4 quid on it now.

Bike riding and BBQ's

It's certainly nice round here for bike riding, i'll give it that!

After sorting my bike out, which hasn't been used for 4 years(!) I went out on a quick ride, which ended up turning into a ten mile killer... And it nearly did kill me lol. Not having ridden in 4 years and being generally unfit at the moment didn't help, neither did all the hills...

Was fun though and it was certainly better than sitting inside on a day like this! Probably won't get used for another 4 years now though, especially if I move into the city!

Right, BBQ time - The first of many here I hope, need to get everyone down here from sheff to have one in a few weeks!

Off to see War of the Worlds
later, looking forward to that, from what i've seen it looks like it's gonna be a good film and with Steven Spielberg directing, let's face it, it's not going to be a bad film.

Work tomorrow :(
