MMMMmmm... Chocolate
Had another random trip yesterday, Cadbury World this time!
Claire managed to get the tickets pretty cheap off LastMinute.com so thought we might as well, it's something to do!It was a good day anyway, reasonably interesting and of course, plenty of free chocolate... one thing in particular was very good. They gave you a pot of this warm runny chocolate which you ate with a spoon, so so wrong, but so so good! :)

And obviously had to buy something from "The World's Biggest Cadbury Shop"! Although, as Mike pointed out, how many other Cadbury shops do you know of...? Hmm.

It's that time of the year again...
Yep, it's that time again, mobile upgrade time! :-)
Actually, it won't be this time next year... as I've now moved to an 18 month contract. And for the second time in as many posts i've gone against my gadget-addict principles! Well... no quite, but the phone i've gone for is almost the complete opposite of my XDA Mini S!
Only took me about a fortnight to decide on a contract, but then only took me literally an hour to decide on which phone!

Apparently, this is currently the slimmest phone in the world! Soooo cool :) I only went for this finally because I realised if I stayed on O2 I could still use my XDA if I wanted to and switch between them and I really wanted a cool thin phone for carrying about. Originally I was going to switch to T-Mobile because their Flext tariff's seemed really good, but then I found a good one on O2 so went for that option instead! £30 a month for 400 anytime minutes and 750 texts, not to bad at all I don't think!
Oh yeah and Mike's gone for the same phone... :-| Why is it we always end up buying the same things!?!? Just hope it's good... although all the reviews are very good etc. Just have to see!
And to make this day even better, found out last night Kosheen have FINALLY announced their new tour and album launch!! :-D :-D I'll be buying the album on the launch day, that's for sure... waited long enough for the bloody thing!
They're not playing many places this time, but luckily they are playing in Nottingham, at the Rescue Rooms on the 6th May. Tickets booked already of course :-)
Apart from that, meant to be going to Loveshack tomorrow night, but I feel absolutely crap, got a cold or something, so not sure :-(
Ah well, my new phone should help cheer me up when it gets here...

Why I'm still going to keep a map in my boot....
Ok, I may like driving and I may be obsessed with anything gadget-like, but traveling yesterday was certainly not fun and I partly blame technology...
I was on a grad course down in Bracknell, which we got down to fine and stayed the night before and the night in-between - Although, the least time spent in Bracknell the better...
Anyway.
When we came to drive back yesterday, however, we had slightly more problem! What with the weather issues, the fact we left at half four and just generally the fact that we were in the vicinity of London.
We initially tried to use Steve's Sat Nav to find the quickest route, which it was absolutely sure was via the M25 - hmmm since when is any route via the M25 going to be quick?
Once we got on the M4 we soon realised this was a very very stupid idea, as all the signs said heavy congestion (judging by the news, I think congestion wasn't quite the word..) for the entire circle of the M25, so we thought we'd try the "shortest" route on the Sat Nav instead, taking us off onto backroads.... And I wasn't joking either when I meant backroads...
The problem with things like Sat Nav's is, if you say shortest route, to that it means the nearest route it can get to "as the crow flies". So it tried to take us down god knows what single lane track roads and country lanes, which of course, due to the weather, were all either blocked with tree's or flooded!
Eventually after some "gentle persuasion" we managed to stop it telling us to "Perform a U-turn" as we'd had to do enough of that ourselves to avoid all the tree-blocked roads which the Sat Nav insisted on trying to keep sending us back down!
Five hours later, via Aylesbury, Milton Keynes and god knows where, we finally got back to Nottingham!
So yeah, I may have been all praise for Sat Nav's previously and I still think it's worth it's weight in gold, most of the time. But just goes to prove you can't always rely on technology! If we'd had a map we might have got back in four hours, maybe...
The problem is, the routing software on them needs to vastly improve. To start with they are not intelligent enough to work out the difference between turning round because you can't / don't want to go one way, and making a genuine mistake. So you end up with the bloody thing trying to take you back the way you've just been for half an hour, until it works out you're not going to give in! They also need to have some way of letting you pick a different route if the one it originally decided on is no good i.e. an accident etc. This is probably available on the ones that you pay a subscription for to get traffic updates, but I can't see why it couldn't be a feature of all of them. There's always more than one way to get somewhere!
Perhaps they should start selling Sat Nav's with a free Atlas thrown in...

Don't forget the Pool, Mike...
I'm not going to bother writing much about this weekend since Mike wrote a (extremely) long post, pretty much covering it... But I felt I had to respond to anyway.... :-)
Four of us (me, Mike, Claire and Surovy) went bowling last night... and as Mike put it, I appeared to completely lose the ability to bowl! I think I actually must have broken some kind of record, I managed to get the measly score of 76, yet, I bowled four strikes in the same game!? Hmmm.... That's probably because after every strike I got one pin down (or less) on the next bowl. Doh!
Anyway, Mike did, however, neglect to mention that we went to play pool afterwards - well after a very nice pizza at Pizza Express first... And Surovy and I beat him and Claire, seven games to nil! Sorry Mike... ;-)
So that helped the embarrassment of the bowling a little at least!
That's all I had to say anyway. Couldn't resist.
Oh yeah, another grad course for work next week, so down in Bracknell again for a couple of days (joy!), the course being Business Writing Basics... oh god, even thinking about it's making me want to fall asleep! Ah well, out the office for a couple of days, can't complain I suppose!
More later...

Happy New Year (and a very late Merry Christmas!)
Well, as i've not posted on here for nearly a month now, it's a bit late for a Christmas / New Year post, but still, hope everyone had a good one anyway!
Not sure why I haven't posted really, was pretty busy and a lot of stuff happening over and around Christmas, but that's no excuse I know!
Christmas was pretty much normal though, was fun on Christmas day, seemed to play on my XBox most of it with Jamie, Andy and Sean! Got various bits and bobs for Christmas, although I was pleased with the series 1-3 of 24, which will definitely keep me from being bored for a while! Also got a chocolate fountain which was quite random, but good to have a go with on new years eve... more to follow...
As I probably mentioned previously we planned a party for new year (basically because we couldn't think of anything else to do... again) but it actually happened and there was a decent amount of us for once! Seven people - Mike, Claire, Surovy, Krish, Alex, James and Me! To be fair you'd struggle to fit any more in here, especially when it comes to floor space for sleeping!
Was a very good night though, so good it was in danger of not actually ending! There was excessive amounts of alcohol involved of course... i won't even mention James and the rum... we even managed to make Jenga into a drinking game, which Surovy was very good at (if you enjoy drinking that is!) - she managed to drink about half the bottle of Apple Sourz we had allocated for people who knocked over the tower.... even though she liked to keep reminding us with her new catchphrase that "I'm not allowed!" ;-)
It was also a very good job no neighbours were in - well im assuming they weren't, either that or they had all passed out! Because the music and general volume level started to go up from about 3:30 onwards til about 5:30 (yes, 5:30) when i think we would probably have all lost our voices from singing (shouting?) so loudly, so it finally ended!

That's how parties should be! Even the legendary party from the second year at uni (if i do say so myself... ) had ended before we even got properly started! Granted that was cos everyone was probably either unconscience or throwing up somewhere!
Oh yeah, back to James and the rum... sorry James ;-) He apparently drank rather a lot and ended up with drinking half a bottle of dark rum - possibly more. The next day, well the same day should I say, but you know what I mean... he didn't move, at all. I mean literally. He had his piece of floor and never moved once all day, infact he didn't move til the next morning! He was meant to get a train back with Alex New Year's day evening, but physically couldn't get up lol.
At least it wasn't a birthday, so he can't blame (and take revenge on) anyone other than himself this time! :)
So yeah, that was new year! Been back at work three days now and can't be arsed already, oh well only 361 days left til next new year!
I will attempt to follow with some photo's too... yes mike had his camera out and of course Alex had a fair few classics in there as always, so keep an eye out on gallery soon...

Just The Tonic
Just a quick one about this weekend... did absolutely bugger all during the days, but that's not really a surprise is it! Although went into town on Friday - the first of my Fridays off :-D Managed a bit of wandering around, didn't really achieve much actual shopping though. Hmm...
Saturday night met Dan, who unbelievably, I haven't seen in almost a year now! So was good to catch up! Night was for Andy's 21st, so although I left reasonably early (need to save money you know!) I'm hoping i helped contribute to him getting completely battered ;-) Oh yeah mustn't forget, Jude was there with Dan too - she'd never forgive me if she didn't get a mention... :-) So, yeah, good to see everyone and hopefully have to come up to Birmingham and visit in the new year Dan!
Sunday night me, Claire and Mike went to a Just The Tonic comedy night at The Approach, which was cool. I'm glad I checked their website again, because last I knew they'd stopped running the night because they had nowhere to do it since Cabaret closed! They had three comedians on and I have to say the headliner (Matt something or other, need to find out his surname) was absolutely class. Really really funny.
So I reckon they'll be a few more trips there from now on - apparently it runs on the first Sunday of every month, if anyone else fancies joining us! £7.50 entrance fee so not to bad really, unless you're a student (or still have a card...) and it's even cheaper (bastards!)
