Just a load of random thoughts and stuff i've been up to, probably not worth reading...

This weekend...

Well, since a certain person didn't turn up this weekend... not mentioning any names, I wasn't expecting it to be very exciting, but it wasn't too bad actually!

Had a good night at Loveshack on fri - it's starting to get like the days before uni at the moment, the amount we're going there again! It's all good though, you know it's always going to be class. Went in Saltwater too, a really really nice bar in the Cornerhouse that I can't believe we hadn't been in before! Got a cool roof terrace with its own bar and everything, getting a bit chilly for it though, shame we didn't go in in the summer!

Mike went to Manchester yesterday and I randomly went for a game of pitch & putt in Derby with Jim! lol. Never done it before, the nearest i've got is crazy golf... oh and a go on the driving range at Center Parcs (which didn't go well)... it was fun, but i've decided golf definitely isn't my game!

Today, been pretty bored, but not too bothered, I can live with one day! Did play badminton with Surovy at least so that was good.

I only seem to be posting at weekends at the moment! Probably because my weeks are that repetitive and boring there's nothing even worth putting on here about! I'll try and post more often, but it probably won't happen...

Random days out... part 2!

No, not sherwood forest this time... although close... we headed back that way to Thoresby Park, where they had a giant maze made from maize!

Right, before I go any further, I will say, i'm not even going to start with the cheesy puns, because I think Mike's managed to use every one possible anyway... ;-)

(See I even managed not to say corny... )

There's meant to be loads of these maze's all round the country ( infact, the world apparently!), so we reckon we should challenge ourselves to visit every one! That's some challenge, since they spread as far as South Africa, America, you name it....!!!

Was very random, but a good day again! Even better than sherwood forest possibly! lol. Surovy had to get her 'souvenier' of course... Well, part of the maze itself really... As modelled by her and Claire above! Apologies for the shocking quality picture again, this time it was my rubbish phone camera to blame...

Mike managed to hobble around the maze, which is quite impressive really, since we spent over an hour and a half in there... we weren't lost, just wanted to see it all, honest!

Infact, I just realised I hadn't posted about Mike's knee again yet, so i'll explain the reason he was hobbling! Yep, you guessed it... badminton ended in tears (well nearly) again last weekend. Same thing again with his knee. Not good. Besides it being extremely painful at the time, no doubt, more than anything because now he's even more bored all the time and thus so am I! lol

We're just not meant to play badminton! And I'm getting a reputation for injuring people now... Stu did something to his elbow as well when I was playing him next...

It's just a coincidence!!!! :-|

Anyway, so, hopefully they'll be a part three to this post as well, because we still need to fit in a trip to the seaside before the end of the summer! Didn't think that was the best idea on a bank holiday monday that was all...

Oh yeah, had an awesome night at Loveshack on fri too. We actually went to some different bars too! Shock, horror! Place called the The Fat Cat which is really nice and the new Revolution in the Corner House. Mike couldn't come out though which was annoying because he might have had trouble in Loveshack on his knee... no comments please about me not being able to stand up even with both legs in tact...

Loveshack is dead... or is it?

Ended up having a great night on friday at Loveshack, not sure if it was the amount of alcohol we had consumed but it certainly seemed good :) Sadly it's not Loveshack as we knew it, not so many of those 80's cheese classics, but i'm sure we can live with it!

Was a good weekend all round actually, played some pool on saturday night - after we'd eventually recovered from the hangovers... well, I lost some pool anyway :- But I came back on Sunday and kicked Alex's ass at badminton to make up for it!

Sadly, sunday night I felt a bit crap, something I ate maybe, although not sure what! Couldn't sleep all night so ended up calling in sick the next day :( Better now though!

So that very expensive week ended with a very expensive weekend too! I blame Alex for making me drink so much... ;-)

Talked that one up...

Looks like I spoke to soon about Murray....

He just lost in straight sets in his fourth round match against
Baghdatis. Oh well! Perhaps it was the heat, it's just a little bit warm today again... I think it's time for a beer garden this evening, if we can get a table that is.

Although that's one of the benefits of being able to see your local out the window :)

Don't think it'll have to be a very late one though, absolutley knackered, basically got no sleep last night! I love the hot weather, but why can't it be nice and cool at night!!!

Extreme Badminton!

Me and Mike decided it would be a good idea to play badminton this afternoon.... Yes, badminton, mid-afternoon, in 31 degree temperatures in a sports hall!

To be fair we were going to play tennis, which would have been (slightly) worse, out in the sun!

You can tell we were the only mental ones because out of the 11-12 courts they have at Chilwell, we were the only people playing! To top it off, because it was just me and Mike, we weren't exactly playing easy games! We managed to play five 15 point games, and most of them were close as usual.

Not a good day to start playing proper 15 point games! Ah well, it was all good fun in the end, all helps to improve endurance.

...Oh yeah and I won four of them ;-)

Apart from badminton had a pretty boring weekend again, just counting down to going away now!

Shame about the football yesterday, even not being much of a football fan, that match was one of the most stressful things I have ever watched! They did really deserve to win after fighting that long with 10 men, but oh well.

On a good point, it seems we may at last have signs of a decent tennis player! I know theres always stupid amounts of hype around british players, because we're clutching at any opportunity we can get basically, but seeing a couple Andy Murray's Wimbledon matches this year, particularly yesterdays brilliant display against Andy Roddick, I've got to say I'm impressed! Lets just hope he can keep it up... bring on Federer!

Tennis and Town

Just had another game of tennis with Mike, I played absolutely shockingly bad, especially in the second set but somehow still won in the end :-D 6-4 2-6 7-5

Went into town this morning to cash the money from my birthday - always worth getting up early on saturday for! Bought a few bits and bobs for going away too and the new Zutons album
.

Only two weeks on tuesday til I go to Rome :-D Can't come soon enough, although I still need to look into things to do there, not that there's likely to be a lack, i think it'll be more a problem of getting everything we want to do into four days! I'd quite like to go to Pompeii and Mount Versuvius, there are quite a lot of day tours from Rome there, just quite a long way to go that's all.

Pub time now I think.

2-0

Woohoo! Not only did England win 2-0 against Trinidad & Tobago, which is obviously a good thing... but I won £25 :)

I had a free fiver bet on them winning 2-0 with SkyBet at 5:1 odds!

Basically I only did it because I get a weekly newsletter from Martin Lewis at MoneySavingExpert.com, which is a site I would highly recommend! He's quite well known actually, does radio shows etc Most of his stuffis like what credit cards to get the best deals on and various loopholes and ways of gettings something for nothing.... Which is always good!

This was the only gambling type thing he's done, but since it was money for nothing it had to be done. And I made 25 quid out of it!

So far i've made over £85 out of just reading that site, you really can't complain at that! - The other £60 was from selling my old mobiles through envirofone.com (which I wouldn't have found out about if it wasn't for that site!).

Anyway, tomorrow, short day at work then lots of eating and drinking. Red Hot Buffet Shack MMMmmmmmm......

I have put a lot of links in this post haven't I? I think I should be paid by these people to advertise their sites! Kind of like my own google adwords...? Maybe not :-|

Center Parcs

Just got back from Center Parcs this afternoon.

Had a well good week, obviously seemed to go very quick, but we certainly managed to pack a lot into the time! I think we pretty much did every activity there, apart from a couple of the very expensive ones - it cost enough as it was :-|

We did.......

  • Pool
  • Snooker
  • Table Tennis
  • Badminton
  • Tennis
  • Swimming
  • Field Archery
  • Ten Pin Bowling
  • Golf Driving Range
  • Laser Clay Pigeon Shooting
  • and Quad Biking :)
Unsuprisingly, the Quad Biking was very very good!

Never done it before and now I would love to do it again. We got like two 20 minute trek's through woodland and serious off-road stuff. It was even better than the off-road thing I did last year in a Land Rover Defender.

Laser Clay Pigeon shooting was really good too. Done the real thing before, but this was better if anything because they could do varied games etc. The gun was exactly the same feel, weight and everything, just you could have a scoreboard and everyone could aim for the same clay!

Pretty knackered now, unsuprisingly, although we didn't do as much "physical" sport as I expected, only played badminton once! - Alex didn't want to play again because he knew i'd finish what I started and beat him ;-)

Wasn't helped at the beginning of the week by the fact neither of us got any sleep the night before we went, for me mainly due to the fact I was sleeping on his floor sober (which has never happened before suprisingly....) So the first day seemed very long! All good in the end though.

Right, better go now, people arriving from Sheffield, big night out in Notts tonight :-D

I really will be sleeping the rest of the weekend.....!!!

Houses and drunkeness

In comparison to most of my weekends, just had a very hectic weekend! But good hectic :)

Mike came down fri to start looking for somewhere to live in nottingham, although we both thought it was just an excuse for a pissup (or two). It turned out we actually did both lol

Found a very nice apartment in Chilwell, not massive, but big enough and brand new. The apartment block that it's in has several available for rent to, so we can pick and choose a bit if we decide to go for it, which is nice.

Can't wait to move, be so cool living somewhere like that and it'll be a laugh living with a mate again, like being back at uni.... almost :-|

Apart from that, of course, we got pissed. Ended up at Love Shack on friday night and it was a well good night! Exactly how it used to be, every song a classic and it wasn't too rammed etc. We were to knackered to go out properly again last night, so went bowling with some others (let's not comment on my pathetic scores...) then just had a few games of pool at rileys - Again, almost felt like being back at uni for a moment. Must let go, must let go, must let go....!

Ouch

Actually, it's not really ouch, suprisingly. I've been to the gym three times this week and amazingly i'm not a crumpled heap of exhaustion! I really need to keep this up, I actually feel a lot more awake and I can definitely feel the effort after just this week!

This is, will I have the motivation to keep it up, judging from past experience... probably not :-|
But I'm gonna try. I was actually intending on just going swimming today, but got to the pool and it was full of millions of kids, so wasn't gonna do much proper swimming in there!

Apart from that not done much this weekend, went out for a few drinks with James last night, that's the second time in the space of about 3 weeks i've seen him, i'll probably not see him again for 6 months again now if the last few years have been anything to go by!

Dentist tomorrow..... :-|

Back online!

Why do Plusnet have to take so long to activate adsl!!!! Not that i'm complaining, they're pretty good really, just annoying having to wait two weeks!

Hmmm... what have I been up to since last post? Quite a lot actually! Moved house obviously, my stuff actually all fitted in ok, to my amazement. It's sooo good living away from home again.

Went to Crasher of course which was class (as expected), although didn't quite make it through til 6. Could barely stand up by about half 4! But I had been out the friday night in Nottingham that weekend as well!

Went up to Sheff this weekend and went out with Alex and Mike, had a good night, although it seemed to be about three hours later than it actually was all night (probably due to the fact we started drinking at 4....)

Apart from getting pissed, not much else, so the usual then...! :)

Oh actually, I lie, I have done something slightly more healthy - slightly more expensive as well though...
Joined a gym/health club place which is pretty cool. Has a nice swimming pool as well as a huge gym and loads of other stuff. £49 a month though.... hopefully that'll make me actually go to the gym and not just lounge around in the pool and jacuzzi etc :)

I'm also currently addicted to watching 24. Someone at work lent me the first series and i've been watching it pretty much constantly when i've had time. It's well good! Wish I watched it before now.

Results!

I got a 2:1 :-D :-D

I am very very pleased with that, from the moment I took those exams I expected to come out with a 2:2 or possibly fail some of them and have to re-take. I can't have asked for any better than this, particularly as it was a high 2:1 - 67% average!

Well done to everyone else as well, pretty much everyone got what they wanted, 2:1's (or first's in the case of Tom and James).

Time for some celebration I think! Well, apart from a meal out that might have to be postponed til next weekend.

Although, feel kind of guilty celebrating anything at the moment after the terrorist attacks in London yesterday, apparently at least 50 are now confirmed dead according to BBC News. Don't really know what to say about it other than I just hope they catch someone this time and put them away for a very long time. Not that that will provide much comfort for the families involved, but it's something.

Bike riding and BBQ's

It's certainly nice round here for bike riding, i'll give it that!

After sorting my bike out, which hasn't been used for 4 years(!) I went out on a quick ride, which ended up turning into a ten mile killer... And it nearly did kill me lol. Not having ridden in 4 years and being generally unfit at the moment didn't help, neither did all the hills...

Was fun though and it was certainly better than sitting inside on a day like this! Probably won't get used for another 4 years now though, especially if I move into the city!

Right, BBQ time - The first of many here I hope, need to get everyone down here from sheff to have one in a few weeks!

Off to see War of the Worlds
later, looking forward to that, from what i've seen it looks like it's gonna be a good film and with Steven Spielberg directing, let's face it, it's not going to be a bad film.

Work tomorrow :(

Badminton, part two

So much for my victory in badminton, Alex beat me 5-1 today :(

Now I'm bored again! But, Alton Towers tomorrow :-D Can't wait to go on the new ride just hope it doesn't sodding rain... I'm not driving this year and we're taking the motorway route... so we might actually get there without getting stupidly lost! - I blame Alex's map reading last year anyway ;-)

Badminton

Just played badminton, absolutley knackered, but I beat Alex so it's all worth it!
Really need to do that more often though, hopefully next year I'll get into back into some kind of routine again, maybe even go to the gym.... maybe.

Feeling reasonably confident about this last eggs 'n ham (exam to you and me... ask Mike :-P). Although, its still my worst subject, so lets hope the right questions come up! One more day of revision then a very long day of drinking after the exam on Friday! Although, something tells me, I'm not going to be getting quite as drunk as I will be two weeks later.... :-|
